What are cranes? What is Cranes: 0?

The yellow crane in the green member/search box with the text "Cranes: 0" below it is a great feature of the website. It is a counter just like "Member Points", but instead of counting points it counts the number of Cranes you have been awarded.

Cranes are awarded to anyone who helps another member's intention come to be.

10,000 Thoughts keeps track of every intention each member views while logged in. When one of those intentions is removed by a member because it has come true, then everyone who ever viewed that intention is awarded a Crane.

What are Points/Member Points?

Once a member has logged into the site, a Points total is shown in the green box below the 10,000 Thoughts logo.

These Points or Member Points are a running total of the points you have accumulated by your actions on 10,000 Thoughts. Nearly every action you take on the site - from logging in, to submitting a gratitude, to reading and commenting on other people's intentions will earn you Member Points. &

Your Member Points affect a number of things on the site, but the 2 primary impacts are:

1. They determine the odds of one of your intentions being selected as the Spotlight Intention.

2. When another member uses the Help Others\View Intentions page, your Member Points affects the listing position of your intentions on the page. (The more Member Points you have and the more active you are on the site, the higher your intention will be placed on the page.)

How do I increase my Member Points?

Nearly everything you do on the site will increase your Member Points, from logging in each day, to writing down a gratitude, to emailing an intention to a friend. But the easiest and most effective way to increase your Member Points is by reading and helping other people with their intentions.

Focus on helping others and your Member Points will rise quickly. Focus on helping others and you will be helping yourself as well.

What are those symbols/badges in the green box below the logo?

The symbols in the green member/search box below the site logo are called badges.  Badges are simply a way to make the site more fun.  A member's badge will change symbols as the member's point values change.   >

When you see someone else's badge it is a quick way to see if they are a newbie to the site (few member points), or have been an active member for a while (lots of member points.)  Presently, there are 7 possible badges that a member can "earn" on the website.

The symbols that are shown on the badges are actually symbols for the 7 chakras of the body.  If you are into chakras, you can find out more about these symbols on our forum here, and also at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chakra

If you are not into chakras, simply ignore that aspect of the badges.  ;]

What is the Spotlight Intention?

The Spotlight Intention is the first intention everyone sees when they log in to the site each day. An intention, once selected as the Spotlight Intention, will remain the Spotlight Intention until 10,000 people have read the intention or until 24 hours have expired - whichever comes first.

How is the Spotlight Intention Selected?

The Spotlight Intention is selected through a random drawing where members points determines each intentions odds of being selected.

How do I make one of my intentions the Spotlight Intention?

The Spotlight Intention is selected by a random drawing. To increase your odds of being selected for the Spotlight Intention you need to accumulate Member Points. The more member points you have, the better chance you have of one of your intentions becoming the Spotlight Intention.

How do I get my intention read by others?

There are four main ways to increase the number of people who see and read your intention.

1.  Get your intention selected to be the Spotlight Intention.  (Other forum questions discuss the Spotlight Intention in detail.)

2.  Share your intention with people you know using 10,000 Thoughts "invite a friend" function.   (And generate Member Points in the process!)

3.  Create an intention that is highly visible to the  Search Engine.

Give the Search Engine plenty of options to select your intention by including a complete title and a descriptive background to your intention.  In addition, fill out a comprehensive profile on your account page, and write detailed gratitudes on your gratitude page as well.  As a member, the more you write on the site, the more avenues other members have to find you and find your intentions as well.

And remember, focus on helping others and you will be helping yourself as well.
