10,000 Thoughts - An Example
Many times, the best way to explain how something works is to use an example. Below is an example of one way in which 10,000 Thoughts works.
Bill P. was in his last year of college and was drowning in debt. Although he had a job waiting tables, he had over $7,000 in credit card debt and was barely paying the minimum balance each month. And after a little fender bender a couple of months ago, his car insurance has just raised his rates. He needed his car to get to school and work, but he had no idea where he was going to find the extra cash for his insurance.
Bill desperately wanted to get out of his financial situation. The financial burden had drained him emotionally. It was an act of sheer will to get out of bed most mornings.
Bill logged on to 10,000 Thoughts and submitted the intention “I have more than enough money to pay my bills each month.”
Just writing his intention down and submitting it to the “world”, made Bill feel better about his situation. Submitting an intention was a physical step in the direction of financial freedom and he felt relief.
He logged on each day and submitted Gratitudes, things he was thankful for in his life. Bill read the inspirational and success stories on the site as well, and together they raised his spirits even more.
And then he received a few comments from others about his intention. A few people had written to tell Bill about their financial struggles and how they got past them. This was a big boost for Bill to hear from people who understood his situation and believed in him. And although, financially his situation hadn’t yet improved, emotionally Bill was in a completely different place than he was a week or so before. He really enjoyed that he wasn't alone on his quest anymore.
Realizing how much these comments had helped his mood, Bill made a point of doing the same for the other 10,000 Thoughts members – sending out encouraging emails and positive thoughts to others with intentions he related to. This was really satisfying. It felt good to take action, even if it wasn’t on his problem. (And a secondary result was his member points soared.)
It was at this point, Bill got a personal message from Cindy K. Cindy had seen Bill’s intention and noticed in his member background information that he was majoring in digital arts. Cindy told Bill of a contest a new website was holding. The winner got $5,000.
Bill entered the contest. He didn’t win. He did however come in third and pocketed a nice check for $1,000 - enough to cover his car insurance. Rather than being disappointed, he was pleased.
He logged into 10,000 Thoughts the next day, planning to send Cindy a personal thank you. But upon logging in, he noticed the Spotlight Intention read;
“I have more than enough money to pay my bills each month.”
It was his intention! Everyone logging in would see it. And many already had, his inbox was full of hundreds of messages. A surge of confidence ran through him. He new thousands of people would be sending their prayers and positive thoughts his way.
Just then the phone rang. It was from a design firm in his area. They had seen his entry in the contest and wondered if he would come in for an interview. As Bill hung up the phone, he thought to himself, “I will have more than enough money to pay my bills each month soon enough.”
